Toshiba Recalls Satellite Laptops
From LCD TV’s to digital recorders and laptops, Toshiba has done it all but every big name has its tough moments. The latest big brand to fall victim to overheating technology, Toshiba Corporations announced recalls on August 25th with its Satellite laptops.
The laptop recalls roughly 41,000 units affecting Toshiba America & Canada. Fortunately, Toshiba Australia hasn’t receive any complaints. Technical problems include overheating at the notebooks plug-in to the AC adapter. The recalls are due to over 100 reports of Toshiba’s melting laptop cases and minor injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the model notebooks are the Satellite T135, Satellite T135D and Satellite Pro T130 series. Toshiba reports indicate Satellite laptops were sold during August 2009 through August 2010 for $600 to $800. All Satellite laptops are from vendors of electronic stores and online merchants including Toshibadirect. Not only Toshiba but Sony had similar recalls this year. Having a reputation of being on the hot list, Sony recall over half million Vaio laptops for risk of burns to consumers in July. The world’s largest Pcs manufacturer Hewlett-Packard also recall 54,000 lithium-ion batteries because of the batteries overheating and rupturing in May.
Laptop safety is important so make sure your Satellite units isn’t on the official recalls list. Underneath your laptop will contain a print label with the model name and operating system(ex. Windows 7). The Japanese giant advises users to download its latest BIOS update. The new firmware will prevent the laptops from overheating in this manner. Please contact your Toshiba call center for a warranty repair if the new update displays an harness failure message. You can download the BIOS firmware from the Toshiba website.
